      <image:title>About me - Hi, I’m Karin, and I’m a NCS</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m proud to be a Newborn Care Specialist. I really love what I do. It all started over 23 years ago, when I arrived to LA after being raised and live all my life in this tiny-skinny country in South America: Chile. I started Babysitting and being a Nanny for different families for over 10 years, taking care of newborn babies up to teenagers, until I was asked to help at night with a newborn, and I felt in love with that. After that first family, I realized that is something that I totally want to keep doing, so I start getting the proper instruction, and classes, to become who I am now. I have been taking care of newborns at night time for the last 11 years. I also went to Santa Monica College and got a certificate as a Photographer. In my free time, I love to travel.</image:caption>

<image:title>Advise - Log all your Baby’s feedings, sleeping, and diapers…</image:title>
<image:caption>This way we can track whats going on, specially when baby changes caregiver, from day to night, and vice versa. You can do it in a regular notebook, one that you buy at a store that you just fill in the info, find online to print a PDF, or get an APP to your phone. The one I recommend is called “Baby Connect” (pictured here). Log Nursing Mother’s Diet Also log all what you eat and drink, this way, if the baby has any stomach issues, will be easier to see and connect the dots for diet changes you help your baby. At least at the beginning, will be helpful just in case there’re some stomach issues.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Advise - 5 S’s by Dr. Karp</image:title>
<image:caption>Learn the “5 S’s,” created by Harvey Karp, M.D., author of “The Happiest Baby on the Block.” The approach simulates certain aspects of the womb, which can calm babies and lull them to sleep. The S’s are: Swaddling, Shushing sounds (made with your mouth or a noise machine), Sucking on a pacifier, Swinging your baby rhythmically, and holding him in a Side-lying position.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Advise - Tummy Time</image:title>
<image:caption>Newborns need to strengthen their core from the very moment they are born. Tummy time is crucial to tiring babies out so they take good naps. In the beginning it's on parents chest. Then it moves to floor time. It's best to do floor time 15-20 minutes after baby has eaten. About 5-10 minutes they will be ready for a nap. Even if they don’t like it, just a few seconds at a time, then again, another few seconds, then will be a minute, then two... go with the flow.</image:caption>

<image:title>Advise - Reading to your children is priceless!</image:title>
<image:caption>A research article says: "These findings are part of a long line of research on the necessity of parental interactions with their offspring. As 80 percent of brain growth occurs during the first three years of life, with an average of 700 synapses forming per second, babies that hear more from their parents learn more words by age two. By contrast, babies that are spoken to less display learning disabilities for the next six years." And in my personal experience, helps a lot with the kids imagination, vocabulary and much more.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Car Seat - Car Seat Checkup</image:title>
<image:caption>Read Article Until 2 years old, should be Rear Facing. Check on the weight of the car seat, for rear facing and forward facing. If the baby is over the limit in weight, but is under 2 years old, need to find the right car seat for rear facing until your baby can go forward. The safest place for all children younger than 13 years to ride is in the back seat regardless of weight and height. Younger than 13, in the front seat, can be killed by the air bag (sorry for being so direct).</image:caption>

<image:title>Traveling with Kids - Basics for Traveling Inside the airplane:</image:title>
<image:caption>Carry On that fits in compartment, different airlines have different measurements, but the normal are on the picture here, 22 x 14 x 9 inches. Liquids less than 3.4oz/100ml allowed (keep them together in a ziplock bag). NO: aerosol, firearms, lighters, eCigarrettes, marihuana, sharp objects (scissors, knives, corkscrews), along with others, check full list of What Can I Bring. Bag that fits under the seat (purse or backpack). At Security, put in different boxes to go under the x-rays: BOX 1: shoes, belt, sweater, scarf, jacket, phone, wallet, all what is in your pockets. BOX 2: computer alone. BOX 3: your backpack (if it fits), purse. Then carry on. If you have TSA Pre Check, you can make the shorter line, keep your shoes and belt on you, your computer can stay in your bag. Under the airplane: Suitcase/s: Must be 50 lbs (23 kgs) or less. Be careful to go over the limit or you will have to pay the overweight fee. If this happens, you should put the heavy stuff in your carry on, as long as those items are not liquids over 3.4oz. Is always helpful to have a “portable scale”.</image:caption>
